Local resident loses barn to fire

A barn was destroyed in a fire Friday evening near Brocktown, County Sheriff John Banner said.

Firefighters were called at 5:32 p.m. Friday to 22276 County Road 34 in Lake Township.

The barn was fully engulfed when they arrived, Banner said.

New School Board election date set

This week's School Board meeting resulted in the following dates for this years elections.

The next school board trustee elections will take place on the subsequent October 15.

 

Nomination day for candidates will be September 17.

Ashland 82, Gr. Houlton Chr. 36

At Presque Isle Arena, Lucas Belanger led five players in double figures with 17 points as Ashland rolled over host Greater Houlton Christian.

Local Crime Watch Report

Police made 9 arrests for offences including assault, breach of bail, breach of parole, breach of liquor ban, fighting, drink driving, possession of cannabis, and disorderly behaviour.

 

Four commercial burglaries were reported in Fitzherbert Avenue and Main, Freyberg and Cuba streets.

 

Three cars were stolen: a red 1989 Honda, registration TZ5731, a grey 1993 Nissan Primera, AHT931, and a black 1992 Honda Civic saloon, WD6597.
